Acknowledgment
All individuals and organizations engaging with KC RiBS, including event attendees, funders, sponsors, and collaborators, will be required to acknowledge and agree to this Code of Conduct as a condition of participation.

KC RiBS Code of Conduct and Ethics Statement

Kansas City Researchers in Biomedical Science (KC RiBS) is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all individuals participating in our events, programs, and partnerships. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for professional behavior and ethical standards applicable to all KC RiBS stakeholders, speakers, guests, funders, institutional partners, and collaborators.

Core Principles
Respect and Inclusion: All participants are expected to treat others with dignity, respect, and consideration, regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, age, career stage, religion, or background.

Zero Tolerance for Harassment: KC RiBS maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy for harassment of any kind, including but not limited to unwelcome sexual advances, verbal or physical harassment, intimidation, stalking, or inappropriate physical contact.

Professionalism: All interactions—whether in person, virtual, or written—must remain professional and appropriate. This includes interactions at KC RiBS-hosted events, in correspondence, and collaborative contexts.

Accountability: All stakeholders are expected to take responsibility for their actions. KC RiBS leadership reserves the right to take appropriate action in response to violations of this Code, which may include removal from events, termination of funding relationships, or referral to institutional or legal authorities as warranted.

Reporting and Response: Anyone who experiences or witnesses’ behavior that violates this Code of Conduct is encouraged to report the incident to the KC RiBS leadership team. Reports may be made confidentially via email at kc.researchers@gmail.com or in person to a member of the KC RiBS leadership team. All reports will be handled with sensitivity, discretion, and a commitment to protecting the safety and well-being of those involved.
KC RiBS leadership is committed to responding promptly and decisively to all reports of misconduct. Individuals found to be in violation of this Code of Conduct will receive a warning upon a first report. Any subsequent violation may result in removal from current activities and restriction from attending future KC RiBS events.
